QUEPEM: The fish market vendors have accused the Quepem municipality of not providing proper water, toilets facility, and sanitation in the fish market.
Several fish vendors doing their business in the old fish market area of Quepem are annoyed as the temporary place where they were shifted a few months ago lacks the basic sanitation and facilities such as drinking water, toilets, etc.
One fish vendor said that “we have to suffer a lot due to lack of water and toilet facilities in this temporary market.”
They also demanded from the municipality that the municipality should provide the facilities which are not available and that they should be shifted to a permanent place instead of a temporary one.
Quepem Municipal chairperson Suchita Shirwaikar said, “I warn the municipality workers every day to pay attention to the cleanliness and hygiene, but if this is neglected, I will go and inspect the temporary market shed myself and take appropriate action.”
She further said that the issue of water would be resolved in the next two months, and I had called a special meeting with the council about this issue and will make the decision.
