PANAJI: The District Magistrate of North Goa has issued an order prohibiting any person, agency or organisation from carrying out digging or excavation of roads, road shoulders, lanes, thoroughfares or any part thereof without obtaining prior written permission from the District Magistrate.
The order has been issued as a precautionary measure during the monsoon season to safeguard pedestrians, motorists and the general public.
According to the order, road excavation activities can create hazardous conditions, including water accumulation in dug-up areas, slippery debris on roads leading to accidents, and the risk of electric shocks caused by damaged or snapped electrical cables.
Authorities have noted that such conditions can pose a serious threat to public safety, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
The District Magistrate has therefore directed that no road digging work be undertaken without prior approval, with the aim of preventing accidents, ensuring smooth traffic movement and protecting public safety during the monsoon months.
