CANACONA: Now a fish Container on way to Karnataka hits the Karmalghat hillock disrupting highway traffic for over 2 hours on Friday.
According to sources, the truck while negotiating the narrow Karmalghat slope has its axil broken, and it’s tyres went and hit the hillock, just a few metres before reaching at the sharp and treacherous dangerous curve which saw multiple mishaps in the past few months.
Luckily, the container truck swirled to its left and hit the hillock, and had it swirled to its right or even proceeded a few metres down it would have went over the ghat and landed down the gorge below.
People at the site blamed the incomplete work for shouldering the roadside, after recent Hot-Mixing of NH-66 road for the mishap to occur.
A heap of stones though dumped is not yet used to complete the shouldering works of the road. ‘PWD (Highway) doesn’t care for the completion of the works, at-all, otherwise how could the contractor is allowed not to complete shouldering works, which are part of the hot-mixing completed months ago?’, asked motorist.
It may be recalled that PWD as a temporary measure had again erected the Crash-barriers at the dangerous accident-prone Sharp Curve where recently a youth from Mumbai died after a Car went down the NH-66 road at Karmalghat.
Though police reached the mishap site, in the absence of any machinery or Crane at their disposal, could not do much to remove the container, except for trying to regulate the traffic to cross-over one vehicle at a time. Finally, a JCB was brought and the truck was moved to one side, restoring the highway traffic.
