PANAJI: The Goa Tourism Department today has raised the maximum number of shacks allowed in North Goa by five, from 254 to 259.
The Department released a notice to the public to that effect today.
With this, 364 shacks—259 in North Goa and 105 in South Goa—will be allocated for the tourist season of 2023–26.
A total of 364 shacks were allocated during the previous tourist season as well.
Nonetheless, as per the notification released by the department on October 20, there are now 254 fewer shacks in North Goa, a decrease of 5.
The government has already scrapped the age limit between 18 and 60 years to apply for the shacks.
The government had also accepted the shack owners demand and reduced the security deposit from Rs two lakh to Rs one lakh for “A” category beach shacks and from Rs one lakh to Rs 50,000 for “B” category shacks. In the earlier policy, it was Rs 50,000 for ‘A” category shacks and Rs 30,000 for “B category shacks.
As per the revised formula, now 80 per cent of shacks will be allotted to those applicants having a minimum of five years of experience or more while 10 per cent of each shack will be allotted to those having a minimum of one year and four years experience and 10 per cent reserved to those who are without experience.
