PANAJI: Several establishments have received a severe warning from the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), which has ordered them to obtain necessary environmental approvals or risk closure.
The public notice provides detailed instructions for acquiring required operating permits in a number of industries. The directive covers a broad range of residential and commercial establishments, including as carpentry workshops, bakery units, laundry facilities, flour and rice mills, and residential complexes with 24 or more apartments.
Hotels, guest houses, resorts, motels, restaurants, car wash facilities, banquet halls, outdoor locations, wedding halls, sawmills, and agricultural establishments including gaushalas, dairies, poultry farms, and pig farms are also covered by the notice.
Under the Water & Air Pollution Control Acts, establishments that fit into these categories must now acquire mandatory consent to establish and consent to operate.
The GSPCB has emphasized that operating without legitimate approval may result in closure orders being issued right away. Additionally, the GSPCB has required that all establishments post the specifics of this permit on a board at their individual locations as a result of the public notice.
Additionally, in accordance with the State government’s Noise Action Plan, the board has reaffirmed that complaints regarding noise pollution should be sent to the local police authority.
The public notice follows recent events in which the GSPCB has already sent closure notices to a number of stores and restaurants in various Goan areas.
