MARGAO: Dr Venkatesh Hedge has said that Omicron is not a deadly virus though it spreads fast.
He also said that the Omicron virus will not create serious patients or deaths as the Delta variant did.
“Dr. Shekhar Salkar has rightly said that by 20th to 30th of January, the number of cases of Omicron will rise to the maximum. He has rightly made the people aware of the Omicron Wave, but one thing he has not mentioned is that Omicron is not a deadly virus though it spreads fast but will not create any deaths nor serious conditions,” said Dr Hegde
He further said that today there is a wave of fear in the environment. People are scared, and we doctors need to be careful when making a statement.
“The positive thing is Omicron is not deadly, no serious effects. The symptoms will be milder like throat pain, fever, cough, running nose but no severe symptoms as the virus do not affect the lungs,” he said
Dr Hegde further said that another good thing about the Omicron is very mild symptoms in people who have taken two doses of vaccine.
“Goa majority of the people have taken the vaccines and thus no major problem even if Omicron is there. Also, it will affect mostly the youngsters, who have good immunity and will fight back Omicron. The only thing that we need is to take care of the old people. The youngsters should not spread it to old people. Thus a good N95 mask, even 2 masks if needed and social distancing and avoiding crowded places,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Hegde said that mask, social distancing and double vaccination will help fight the Omicron variant while also claiming that when one gets Omicron infection, it will offer very good immunity against COVID.
