PANAJI: Goa’s opposition parties have united in strong condemnation of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane’s behaviour at Goa Medical College (GMC), expressing solidarity with the protesting medical community and demanding the immediate revocation of the suspension threat issued against Dr. Rudresh Kuttikar, the Casualty Medical Officer.
Congress President Amit Patkar stated, “We stand in unwavering solidarity with Goa’s doctors. When those who save lives are forced to hang up their stethoscopes and take to the streets, it’s not just a strike — it’s a cry for dignity, justice, and safety. The real disease plaguing Goa is BJP’s intoxicated arrogance.”
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao criticised the public humiliation of the doctor, calling it a “public trial” that violated all protocols. “No politician can usurp the powers of the administrative or executive and denigrate government officers through planned and recorded broadcasts,” Alemao said.
AAP Goa President Amit Palekar also lashed out at Rane’s actions, stating, “Doctors are only next to god. The way the Health Minister abused a senior medical officer in front of the media smacks of arrogance. It was a publicity stunt. We condemn this act and demand an immediate revocation of the suspension.”
Revolutionary Goans Party President Manoj Parab echoed the condemnation, saying, “GMC is not Vishwajit Rane’s private property. Doctors are not his servants. This arrogance is unacceptable. The Chief Minister must act, and the CMO’s suspension must be revoked immediately.”
The backlash follows a major protest by GMC doctors demanding justice, an apology, and an end to VIP interference in hospital functioning after Rane’s confrontation with the CMO in the casualty ward was caught on camera.
