MAPUSA: In a strong statement aimed at external critics and influencers, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza asserted that development in Mapusa is a matter best left to its elected representatives and residents, not outsiders. He emphasized that those unfamiliar with the ground realities should refrain from dictating what should or shouldn’t be done in the town.
“There is no need for outsiders to come and tell us what work has to be done and what shouldn’t be done,” D’Souza said, adding, “I am the elected MLA of Mapusa, and I have been entrusted with this responsibility twice by the people.”
The MLA’s remarks appear to be a direct response to increasing outside commentary on developmental and infrastructure-related issues in the town. Without naming anyone, D’Souza made it clear that Mapusa’s progress is being handled through proper channels and with accountability.
“The Mhapshekars are fully aware of the work that has been carried out. We don’t operate through overnight dadagiri. We work for the people — with proper processes, all required documentation, and by following every protocol.”
D’Souza, who is currently serving his second term, also underlined that his administration functions on a sustainable funding model, focusing on long-term impact rather than short-term optics.
The comments come amid a growing debate over infrastructure projects and civic concerns in Mapusa, with various groups raising questions over priorities and implementation strategies. However, D’Souza maintained that his government’s approach is structured, lawful, and people-centric.
