CANACONA: Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar has announced that development works worth over ₹383 crore have been completed in the Canacona constituency since 2022, while projects worth another ₹1,671 crore—including the long-awaited four-laning of NH-66—are in the pipeline, awaiting government approval or tendering. Addressing a press conference in Canacona after returning from New Delhi, Tawadkar said he and Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant met Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav to resolve technical hurdles that had delayed key infrastructure works in forested and protected areas of the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary. He thanked Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Kamal Datta for his role in helping secure clearances for building roads, providing electricity, and constructing culverts and bridges in sanctuary residential areas such as Tirval, Nadkem, Keri and Avali.
Tawadkar provided a detailed account of the ongoing and planned projects, stating that the Public Works Department (Roads) had completed works worth ₹95.67 crore between 2022 and 2025, with ₹3.70 crore worth awaiting government approval, ₹95.40 crore in new proposals, and ₹1,560 crore worth of works awaiting tendering. The PWD (Highways) division completed works worth ₹26.07 crore, while ₹1,376.12 crore has been sanctioned for the four-laning of the Bendordem–Canacona–Polem stretch of NH-66, a project already tendered with 24 bidders whose technical bids have been opened. In the Water Resources Department, ₹14.32 crore worth of works were completed, ₹1.68 crore are awaiting approval, ₹18.27 crore are newly proposed, and ₹40.50 crore worth are awaiting tendering. The Electricity Department completed ₹47.12 crore worth of works, has ₹154.65 crore under process, and ₹43.5 crore in new proposals. PWD (Water Supply) completed ₹8.54 crore worth of works, with ₹1.30 crore under process and ₹28.44 crore in proposed works.
In Canacona Municipal jurisdiction, ₹1.54 crore worth of works under the Grant-in-Aid scheme have been completed, with ₹2.28 crore in new proposals. The reconstruction and extension of the municipal building is nearing completion at a cost of ₹9.60 crore, with an additional ₹76 lakh to be spent on furniture. A ₹63.73 lakh Sulabh Sauchalaya is nearing completion at Chaudi, while a ₹2.97 crore fish market project is proposed. Tawadkar also highlighted that ₹6.30 crore and ₹5 crore worth of works under GIA funds have been completed across the six village panchayats of Agonda, Shristhal, Gaondongrim, Khotigao, Poinguinim and Loliem-Polem through MGNREGA.
He added that the projects are part of the “Canacona Vision and Mission 2030,” which aims to complete 80% of the planned works within this term itself. Tawadkar further noted that multiple welfare schemes have been extended to beneficiaries since 2022, including the Atal Asra Yojana, Widow Pension, Disability Pension, Senior Citizen Pension, Griha Aadhar, and Ladli Laxmi, demonstrating the government’s commitment to addressing both infrastructure and social welfare needs in the constituency.
