OXEL: The owner of a contentious multi-dwelling project will receive a show-cause notice from the Oxel panchayat for not adhering to the terms of the panchayat construction licence.
This decision was made after a panchayat meeting and a recent inspection.Oxel Sarpanch Reshal Arporkar inspected the construction site on Saturday. It is situated close to Oxel’s heritage spring.
To discuss the best course of action, the panchayat body met on Monday. “Today at the panchayat office, all the members got together and decided to give the owner of the multi-dwelling units a show-cause notice,” Arporkar said.
“As a matter of natural justice, we must give the developer time to respond to our findings, so we are unable to immediately stop the work. We must adhere to the protocols even though we are with the people,” she continued.
Due to the project’s close proximity to the heritage spring, locals and environmental activists, such as the Goa Green Brigade, have voiced strong opposition to it.
Recently, the community organized a candlelight vigil and wrote to the panchayat to request that the project’s work be stopped.
Arporkar emphasized the panchayat’s dedication to upholding legal procedures while safeguarding the village’s ecology and environment.
“We have written to several departments, including the PWD, TCP, WRD, health, etc., requesting that they carry out inspections and submit the results to the panchayat. We will determine the next course of action based on their reports,” she stated.
Citing the builder’s violations of the Goa Land Development Building Construction Regulation 2010, the villagers have reaffirmed their demand for the revocation of the construction licenses granted to the project and the issuance of a stop-work order.
