PANAJI: According to a study from the Goa State Pollution Control Board that was presented to the Assembly yesterday, Panaji has the worst air quality among the six towns in Goa, with Cuncolim having the worst industrial estate and Amona having the worst mining sector.
The paper details the Ambient Air Quality Monitoring (AAQM) data from the 19 National Air Monitoring Programme (NAMP) sites located throughout Goa between April 2022 and March 2023.
Panaji’s PM10 concentrations are now at 68 g/m3. PM10 refers to airborne particles with a diameter of 10 microns or less (PM10) that can have a negative impact on one’s health.
Cuncolim Industrial Estate, which has a PM10 rating of 72 is the most polluted, and Amona Mining Areas.
The particulate matter remained much below the permissible limit in cities like Mapusa, Margao, Vasco, Ponda and mining areas of Bicholim and Tilamol.
The parameters like Ozone (O3), Lead (Pb), and Carbon Monoxide (CO) were also monitored at these locations and were found within prescribed limits.
