ST CRUZ: Inacio Domnic Pereira, Panch member of the St. Cruz Village Panchayat, and John Nazareth, Congress Block President (St. Cruz Block), met with the Executive Engineer and Administrator of the National Highways on Monday to raise concerns over the ongoing confusion regarding the Santa Cruz slope leading towards GMC.
The issue stems from the apparent absence of a service road at the location, despite a Notification issued by the Department dated March 24, 2025, which clearly indicates provision for the same. The delegation alleged that the omission may not be accidental and could potentially be aimed at benefiting a private builder operating in the vicinity.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, John Nazareth said, “This is a serious lapse and appears to be a deliberate move to aid vested interests. We demand transparency and immediate rectification.”
Executive Engineer assured the duo that the matter would be taken up on priority, and a site inspection would be conducted without delay to verify the claims and take necessary corrective action.
Locals have long demanded safer infrastructure in the area, with this slope being a particular point of concern due to heavy traffic and lack of alternate access.
