New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the Union Cabinet will discuss tougher measures to tackle paper leaks, describing the issue as one that has caused immense distress to lakhs of students and their families.
In a video message shared late on Thursday, the Prime Minister said the government is committed to strengthening the examination system and taking stricter action against those involved in paper leak cases. He also revealed that a new Bill aimed at tightening legal provisions against paper leaks will be introduced in Parliament next week.
Calling the issue “not an ordinary one,” PM Modi said the controversy has deeply affected students and parents across the country. He stressed that the government’s priority has been to ensure that candidates do not lose an academic year because of the disruption caused by the examination scandal.
The Prime Minister said several accused linked to the paper leak cases have already been arrested over the past two and a half months and are currently in jail. He added that authorities acted swiftly to conduct the re examination so that students could continue their academic journey without prolonged uncertainty.
The announcement comes amid continuing protests over the NEET paper leak, with demonstrators demanding accountability and reforms to the examination system. The government’s latest move signals a stronger policy response aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
PM Modi’s statement also came ahead of a scheduled meeting between government ministers and a delegation of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been leading protests at Jantar Mantar. The discussions are expected to focus on resolving the ongoing dispute surrounding the NEET paper leak and examining demands for wider reforms in the education system.
The CJP has been holding a sit in protest since last month, seeking accountability over the controversy, the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and comprehensive changes to the country’s examination framework. The proposed legislation and Cabinet deliberations are expected to form a key part of the government’s response to the issue.
