PANAJI: Monsoon arrived in Goa this morning, five days after the normal date. IMD has officially announced the advancement of monsoon in the state.
“Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian sea, entire Goa, some parts of Konkan and some more parts of Karnataka on 10th June 2022,” IMD said.
IMD said that after the onset, the Arabian Sea branch of the southwest monsoon has remained weak, and there have not been any supportive strong westerly winds aiding the monsoon advance.
“Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over North&South Goa on 10th,13th&14th June.Heavy rainfall at a few places&Very heavy rainfalls at isolated places, very likely on 11th&12th. Short, intense spells and winds gusting to around 40kmph, likely along with rainfall spells. Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea from 10th to 14th June,” the forecast states.
Southwest Monsoon has been stuck over Karwar for 6-7 days. However, now conditions are building up for rains to appear over Konkan and Goa region.
In fact, both these regions have started to witness some rainfall activities, all thanks to the feeble Cyclonic Circulation that has developed off the coast of Konkan in the Arabian Sea.
Good rains will remain confined to Goa and southern parts of Konkan, including Mahabaleshwar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg etc. Whereas the northern parts of Konkan, including Mumbai, Thane, Alibag, will see light rains with a few moderate showers.
