VERNA: A pedestrian who was crossing a road in Verna died after being knocked down by a Bullet motorcycle near the Herald Company premises in the Verna Industrial Estate on Tuesday evening.
According to Verna Police, the accident occurred at around 4 pm on the road opposite Herald Company at IDC Verna. The victim, identified as Shil Kumar, a resident of Verna, was crossing the road towards the Herald Company when he was struck by a Bullet motorcycle travelling from CIPLA Circle towards Titan Junction.
Police said the motorcycle was being ridden by Huzaif Shaikh, a resident of Verna currently staying in Pune, Maharashtra. Akash Sharma, originally from Khurd in Himachal Pradesh and presently residing in Verna, was travelling as the pillion rider.
The impact left Shil Kumar seriously injured. He was immediately shifted for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the South Goa District Hospital, Margao.
Following the incident, Verna Police registered a case against the rider under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash and negligent driving resulting in death.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI David Costa of Verna Police Station under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
