MARGAO: A hat-trick by Pele Fernandes helped Pele Veterans Benaulim to defeat Navelim Veterans by 5-0 to move into the quarterfinals of the 4th Rosary Cup inter-village veterans football tournament Organised by Rosary Veterans and played at Laymati Football Ground Davorlim on Friday.
Pele veterans Benaulim from the word go started attacking from both sides and scored the first goal through Pele Fernandes in the 10th minute of play then Charlie D’Silva doubled the lead in the 20th minute of play for Pele veterans while Navelim Aluizio Fernandes shot from the box saved by Benaulim goalkeeper Manoj Kesarkar and at half time Pele Veterans were 2-0 lead when it was half time.
In the second session of play, Navelim tried hard to come back but couldn’t make it and Pele veterans scored three goals as Pele Fernandes completed his Hatric in the 35th and 40th minutes of play and Luis Menino Fernandes also added his name on the scoresheet.
The goalkeeper of Navelim Veterans Julio saved three to four goals while Pele veteran Benaulim also missed to increase the lead.
The Hero of the match was Pele Fernandes of Pele Veterans who scored a hattrick and kept the football fans on their toes with his skills and determination on the field
