The High Court of Bombay at Goa today has directed the government and State Election Commission (SEC) to respond to a petition challenging the process of the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Elections slated to be held this month.
The petitioner has claimed that the ZP poll notification was issued in Feb and the polls were postponed subsequently in view of Covid Pandemic and holding polls without fresh notification, process and code of conduct is against violation of law and that a fresh process has to be initiated.
The petition was filed by social activists Keval Palyekar and Sudip Tamankar.HC has issued notices to the state government and the SEC which should be duly returned on December 8.Meanwhile, the State Election Commission had proposed December 12 as the date for polling Zilla Panchayat election in the State.
