New Delhi: Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lauded the success of Operation Sindoor, India’s recent military strike targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, and urged political leaders to show unity in national interest inside Parliament.
Addressing the media before the session, PM Modi described the military operation as a decisive and successful response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which several tourists were targeted. “Operation Sindoor was a resounding success — the Indian Army demolished terror masterminds’ hideouts within just 22 minutes. It showcased the strength and precision of India’s military,” he said.
PM Modi also highlighted India’s diplomatic efforts, noting that a recent global outreach program led by Members of Parliament had helped “expose Pakistan” on international platforms. “The country has witnessed unity after Operation Sindoor. That same unity must be reflected within Parliament as well,” he added.
However, the Prime Minister’s call comes as the Monsoon Session is expected to be highly contentious, with the Opposition, led by Congress, preparing to confront the government on several pressing issues — including the security lapses in Pahalgam, upcoming Bihar elections, and foreign policy actions following the ceasefire.
Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury has submitted a notice in the Rajya Sabha demanding a discussion on the internal security failures that led to the Pahalgam attack and seeking clarity on the government’s foreign policy post-Operation Sindoor.
As Parliament resumes, the stage is set for intense debates, with the government defending its national security stance and the Opposition pushing for accountability.
