COLVA: Colva Police have registered a case against a Ponda resident following allegations that he deceived a woman by promising marriage, entered into a live-in relationship with her, obtained money from her, and later abandoned her and their child.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, whose identity has been withheld, the accused, identified as Ramesh Hadpad, a resident of Khadpaband, Ponda, befriended her in 2024 and allegedly represented himself as an unmarried man.
Police said the accused allegedly induced the complainant to enter into a live-in relationship with him on the pretext of marriage. During the course of the relationship, the two had physical relations, following which the woman became pregnant.
The complainant further alleged that during her pregnancy, the accused subjected her to physical and mental harassment and verbally abused her.
According to the complaint, the accused also allegedly obtained ₹1.5 lakh from the woman on the assurance that he would marry her.
After the birth of a male child, the accused allegedly assaulted the complainant, neglected and abandoned both the woman and the child, and refused to take responsibility for them, police said.
Based on the complaint, Colva Police have registered an offence against the accused and initiated an investigation.
