VASCO: Statues of yesteryears great leaders and freedom fighters in Port town remain neglected for a long time. Statues from T.B Cunha circle, Bhausaheb Bandokar park continues to remain in the dark due to the neglect of the local authorities.
We people, especially politicians take pride in talking, celebrating and at annual garlanding ceremonies to the statues of great leaders, freedom fighters on certain remarkable days. But after the ceremonial function, these statues and the surrounding area once again go into the darkness for a year’s time.
Vasco city is no exception to this negligence. The present condition of the Bhausaheb Bandokar statue near Vasco railway station is crying for attention. The fountains from this park are non-functional. There is no illumination here and this place becomes a safe heaven for the homeless, beggars who tend to sleep, eat, and relieve themselves of nature’s call at this place.
Another, statue next to the Vasco jetty area is of T.B.Cunha circle where there is a statue of a great Goan freedom fighter, thinker T.B.Cunha. But this statue has remained neglected for several years. There is no maintenance of this statue. The illumination lamps are dead and this needs immediate attention from the authorities concerned.
Recently Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar assured to beautify the Hutatma Chowk from Vasco under CSR. But it is equally important to take cognisance of these two spots which have stayed away from the maintenance for several years.
