PORVORIM: The Leader of Opposition Michael Lobo too wants the panchayat elections, due in June, to be postponed by four months in view of recent SC verdict that makes triple test mandatory for reservation of seats for OBC.
“I will write to Panchayat Minister and State Election Commission to postpone panchayat elections by four months. I welcome the Supreme court order. OBC reservation should be done through proper data,” said Lobo
He further said that OBC commission is not functioning through proper means and that the state government should take in proper data on OBC populations and then go ahead.
“There is lack of reservation of wards for OBC category, our demand is to postpone Panchayat elections in Goa by four months and reserve the wards as per data of OBC commission,”he added
He said that his party will field panels in the upcoming panchayat elections in all 40 constituencies.
“We will be fielding our panels for the forthcoming panchayat elections. Elections will not be held on party lines. we will field panels in both the constituencies that we have won and others that we have lost,” said Lobo
Lobo said that process of identifying candidates would begin soon and that he was sure that the people of Goa would give them a chance.
