PONDA: Priol locals protested against the merger of five local primary schools with a school located 5 km distance away at Querim.
Parents from nearby areas of Priol gathered at the premises of Galwada Primary School Priol. They were upset over the government’s decision to merge schools. They have warned of agitation and threatened to boycott government primary schools if they are forced to send their children to the Querim-based primary school.
If a merger occurs, parents will have to send their children to Satode– Querim, which is almost 5 kilometres from the existing primary schools for which parents are not ready.
One parent Sadanand Gaude said the situation arose as the government supported private primary schools near government primary schools, thereby leading to the closure of government schools.
He said the government is totally responsible for the problem. The parent said they want the survival of government schools. They said former Chief Minister Bahusaheb Bandodkar implemented one village and one school and demanded that government should implement his policy. They strongly opposed the merger of government primary schools into nearby schools.
