VASCO: The office of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic South Goa writes to the National Highway Authority of India road suggesting road safety measures at the Varunapuri flyover junction to avoid vehicular accidents and for the safety of the commuters.
The road junction at Varunapuri flyover has become a dangerous spot to pass through lately since the newly built Varunapuri to Destero flyover was opened for public transportation. The speedy movement of traffic from this flyover is dangerous and more prone to vehicular accidents which most of the time prove fatal.
Upon contacting DySP Traffic cell Vasco Sudesh Narvekar about this issue, Narvekar informed that South Goa Traffic police have written to the manager(technical) of National Highway Authority asking to implement short term and few long term measures at the Varunapuri flyover junction stretch since this junction caters to the vehicles coming from the Naval gate Varunapuri, traffic from the airport road, from Mangor hill-Vasco town and now from the Headland Sada area directly via a flyover.
He further informed that during the inspection, he observed that this junction needs some safety measures to ensure the free flow of traffic the safety of pedestrians motorists. Some short term measures such as building a roundabout at the junction, construction of slip roads with space for vehicles to cross, installation of the high mast, painting of rumbler strips to prevent high speedy vehicles from passing via the junction, painting zebra crossing, speed limit, and signboards installation have been suggested” he added.
It was maybe recalled that recently National Highway Authority Manager (tech) Sachin Kumar Gautam had informed that National Highway Authority had given direction to the concerned local authority that NHA is ready to invest further to improve the safety infrastructure. We are preparing the budget for the same.
Gautam had also said that already safety provisions which were stated in the agreement related to this infrastructure have been implemented. NHA on February 7 had inspected the site along with the PWD.
