QUEPEM: Residents of Quepem are irked over the high tension and low tension electricity lines hanging dangerously low at Igarmol, Ambaulim area endangering the lives of people and the stary animals.
The people who pass through the Igramol stretch of Ambaulim village have been encountering these live wires that are close to the main road. If these live wires are not attended to by the electricity department staff, it could prove life-threatening to some locals or stray cattle.
Social activist Azim Shaikh said, “this situation could be very dangerous to commuters and people who pass from the roadside such as labourers and people who go for a walk”.
“It seems like this issue has been just ignored by the local councilor, PWD and Electricity department of Quepem”.
Shaikh further stated that “my main aim to raise this issue is for the safety and security of the people before any tragedy takes life due to living HT and LT lines which are hanging at a touchable distance from the ground. Concerned departments should act quickly without wasting time,” he added.
When contacted by Quepem Electricity department Assistant Engineer Sharad Naik, said that since the electricity poles are erected in the roadside fields, and the road is elevated, the height of the live wire has diminished.
A few months before in Monsoon, these electric poles further bent towards the roadside due to cyclonic conditions, which made electric HT and LT lines reach more low.
Naik also mentioned that two more electricity poles were asked to sort out this issue, but the local farmers have objections to putting poles in the roadside fields.
Further, due to this objection, our department has made another move and has asked permission to take these LT and HT lines poles along the roadside from Quepem to Ambaulim, and we are taking follow up of that continuously, AE Naik added.
