PANAJI: While stating that there is no control over anyone buying land in Konkan, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray praised Goa government and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant citing that a law has been passed to purchase agricultural land in Goa.
“A law has been passed in Goa that farm land can be purchased only for agricultural work. And if farm land is bought, it has to be farmed there and no other business can be done. Such a law has been passed.” Raj Thackeray said.
On this occasion, Raj Thackeray also gave a copy of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s speech. “We will not allow Goa to become Gurgaon, Chhattispur. We will not give half of the land here to people from the north.” Raj Thackeray said in his speech.
“In Goa, the state BJP is running the government, the chief minister says in his speech that he will not give land to people coming from the north. If I say that, Raj Thackeray is anti-national.” he added.
The Goa legislative assembly has approved a law that restricts purchase of agricultural land by non-agriculturists.
The legislation aims at proscribing the sale of agricultural land in Goa to non-Goans and comes amidst concerns that people from other states, especially North India, are buying farmland in Goa. Such land, locals claim, is later used for residential and commercial purposes.
