JAMBOTI: Villagers from the Jamboti and Kankumbi villages today protested over the failure & neglect to fix and widen the Belagavi-Goa route through Chorla.
The road blockade agitation disrupted traffic along the major route.
“The Jamboti-Kankumbi area’s gram panchayats will be approached, and we have decided to form a strong public opinion and approach every one of them. We will be united in holding the authorities accountable until the repairs and reconstruction of the road are done,” remarked activist Kiran Gaude.
However, according to NHAI officials, temporary repairs have already begun on the road and will continue until the new road is put in place. The Belagavi-Chorla highway, designated by NHAI as 748AA, was surrendered to NHAI by the Karnataka PWD in 2021, after which it was made a national highway.
Villagers said that the condition of the road in the Karnataka area of the Goa-Belagavi highway has completely deteriorated.
“There are potholes on the road at the Karnataka border. Vehicle drivers and passengers have to face problems such as vehicles breaking down in these potholes and tyres bursting,” they said.
Locals said that in many places the road appears to have disappeared due to potholes.
“It is very important to repair this road before Ganesh Chaturthi. This situation has arisen on the stretch which is about 50 km from Goa border to Piranwadi,” they said.
