BAINA: The Ravindra Bhavan Baina committee has renewed its demand for the immediate shifting of the Collector and Mamlatdar offices operating from its premises, stating that their continued occupation is hampering cultural activities at the institution.
The committee has raised particular concern over the use of the canteen and art gallery spaces by government offices, saying these facilities were originally intended to support cultural, artistic and community activities.
The occupation of the art gallery has emerged as a key issue, with the committee stating that it has become difficult to organise art exhibitions and other programmes requiring dedicated exhibition space. It said the situation restricts Ravindra Bhavan’s ability to provide a platform for local artists and emerging talent.
The committee has urged the government to identify suitable alternative accommodation for the Collector and Mamlatdar offices and restore the occupied areas to their intended purpose.
According to the committee, Ravindra Bhavan should primarily function as a dedicated platform for Goa’s artists, performers, writers and cultural organisations to showcase their work and promote the state’s artistic traditions.
It said restoring the canteen, art gallery and other occupied spaces would enable the institution to host more exhibitions, cultural programmes and community activities.
The committee has called for decisive government intervention, maintaining that Ravindra Bhavan Baina must be allowed to function as a vibrant centre for Goa’s art, culture and creativity rather than as an extension of government administration.
