SANKHALI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today has appealed to everyone to refrain from polluting the river and instead contribute to its preservation.
CM Sawant was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the inauguration of Matoli by the Agri-Tourism & Lifestyle program
“I appeal to everyone to refrain from polluting the river and instead contribute to its preservation, ensuring that it remains a clean and vibrant source of life for generations to come,” said Sawant.
He further said that the Valvanti River, a vital lifeline flowing through the Bicholim and Sattari Talukas, is in need of preservation.
“It is disheartening to see debris and waste being carelessly disposed of into this precious resource, threatening its health. While the Government is actively working to protect and restore the river, it is crucial for each of us to take responsibility as well,” he added.
The water level of the Valvanti river suddenly rose in just three hours and it was around 4.5 metres while the Bicholim River level rose to around 5 metres in the evening.
Vaddem Lake in Vasco, River Tar in Mapusa and the Pomburpa River stretch are among the 20 water bodies found to be polluted due to the discharge of raw sewage and other pollutants.
The Directorate of Health Services has identified a total of 20 water bodies across Goa which are found to be highly contaminated due to various pollutants including discharge of raw sewage.
