New Delhi: Fresh political speculation has erupted in Telangana after Dharmapuri Arvind suggested that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy could eventually switch political sides in a manner similar to Suvendu Adhikari, who left the Trinamool Congress and joined the BJP before emerging as one of the party’s strongest leaders in West Bengal.
The BJP MP made the remarks while criticising the Congress leadership’s decision to appoint Revanth Reddy as chief minister over several senior leaders who had spent decades within the party organisation. He claimed the move had created dissatisfaction within Congress ranks and hinted that future political developments in Telangana could mirror dramatic shifts seen in other states.
Drawing parallels with Suvendu Adhikari’s political journey, Dharmapuri Arvind said Telangana could witness major political realignments in the coming years. He also predicted a severe setback for the Congress in the next Assembly elections, claiming the party would face one of its worst defeats under Revanth Reddy’s leadership.
The BJP leader stated that the Congress had previously suffered major electoral losses in the state during the mid 1980s and 1990s and asserted that a similar outcome could unfold again in the 2028 or 2029 elections.
His comments gained further attention after recent remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event in Hyderabad. Addressing Revanth Reddy from the stage, the Prime Minister had said that the Telangana leader may not reach where he intends to politically and suggested that he should “join” him instead. The comment immediately triggered speculation about its political meaning.
Revanth Reddy, who was present at the event, reacted with a smile but did not respond publicly to the statement.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s remarks, Dharmapuri Arvind said he was unsure whether there was a deeper political message behind them but added that “something could be brewing” in Telangana politics.
He further claimed the state would witness intense political activity over the next two years and expressed confidence that the BJP would eventually come to power in Telangana. The remarks are expected to intensify political exchanges between the BJP and the ruling Congress ahead of upcoming civic and electoral battles in the state.
