PORVORIM: In response to a question posed by Santa Cruz MLA Rodolfo Fernandes in the state legislature, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the museum directorate is going to introduce a revised policy that will provide financial support to private museums.
According to Sawant, the program is an improvement over the prior one, which gave money to a few museums in 2017 and 2018.
Prominent private museums such as the Houses of Goa, Salvador-do-Mundo, which was awarded a grant of Rs 7.46 lakh in 2017, were sponsored by the directorate under the previous scheme. A grant of Rs 25 lakh was given to the Goa Chakra Museum in Benaulim in 2018.
Financial support totalling Rs 9.5 lakh was given to the Ancestral Goa Museum in Loutolim, and Rs 10 lakh was given to the Pilar Seminary Museum.
With the help of the new policy, these initiatives will be streamlined and strengthened, giving private museums in Goa more reliable support.
It is anticipated that this will strengthen the cultural landscape of the state by allowing museums to improve their spaces, take on preservation projects, and increase their outreach to the public.
