PORVORIM: In order to secure about 35 hazardously abandoned quarries and mining pits in Goa, the government has approved funding. In order to barricade and trench entry points, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that Rs 75 lakh had been approved and that an additional Rs 2 crore would be sanctioned under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF).
This decision was made in response to multiple incidents and deaths that were reported at different pits and quarries throughout Goa. In order to stop more accidents, the opposition and locals have called for fencing and adequate police presence at these locations.
According to Sawant, the distribution of these monies along with appropriate actions will support the preservation of safety concerns and avert additional tragedies at these dangerous sites.
