MARGAO: Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party (GFP) president Vijai Sardesai has warned that the alleged “dadagiri” of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) will not be tolerated, as the dispute over blocked access roads at Velsao continues to escalate.
Sardesai, along with former GPCC chief Amit Patkar and residents of Velsao, has demanded that access roads allegedly blocked by RVNL be cleared before August 15. He warned that if the administration fails to intervene and remove the alleged obstruction, local residents may take matters into their own hands.
The issue has also led to a confrontation over machinery used during the protest. Indian Railways has reportedly attached a wheel loader owned by Amit Patkar, which was deployed to clear gravel allegedly dumped by the Railways on private property at Velsao.
Patkar questioned the action, saying that instead of addressing allegations of trespass and obstruction of access, the Railways had chosen to attach the machinery used to remove the obstruction.
Meanwhile, Sardesai also addressed the ongoing discussion over a possible Congress-GFP alliance ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.
Sardesai said he had not received any letter from Congress seeking discussions on an alliance. He questioned the need for a formal letter when communication could easily take place through other means.
“I don’t have a fight with Girish Chodankar. I can still receive his WhatsApp messages. He can even WhatsApp me the letter; it will reach me,” Sardesai said.
Sardesai said he had earlier gone to meet Congress leader Girish Chodankar at his residence, indicating that there was no personal dispute between the two leaders.
The developments come as political parties in Goa begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with discussions over possible alliances and seat-sharing arrangements gaining momentum.
