VALPOI: Welcoming the government’s decision to bring out a Bhumpiputra Bill, the Sattari Bhumiputra said the Bill in its current form is unacceptable and needs amendments before it is implemented.
Addressing a press conference, the Sattari Bhumiputra said they congratulate CM Pramod Sawant for bringing out the Bill to help the poor Goans.
“But the Bill needs rectification. Bill is unacceptable in its current form,” Sattari Bhumiputra members said.
Ganpat Gaonkar, Rajesh Gaonkar Ranjit Rane, Shridhar Kale Shivram Rane were present for the press conference.
The members expressed fear that if the Bill is not amended, there could be a threat of existence for Niz Goenkar’s.
Ganpat Gaonkar said that last year there was a massive rally in Valpoi regarding land ownership in Sattari taluka. ”
“We had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on our land rights, especially, Sattari taluka. The letter had four demands out of which CM has accepted one through this Bill,” he said.
He added, “the Bill has to be amended to benefit only Niz Goenkars and not those who resided for 30 years in Goa.”
Speaking on occasion, Rajesh Gavkar said that for the first time since the liberation of Goa, the government had taken a bold decision.
“The Bill will give ownership rights to about 250 sq meters of land. This is very important from the point of view of acquiring land ownership. However, in this Bill, the compensation for the land has to be paid to the government or the owner of the original land. We demand that the government has to give us a waiver,” he stated.
Rajesh Gaonkar clarified that demands would be made for necessary corrections.
Ranjit Rane demanded that the definition of Bhumiputra needs to be changed in the new Bill
“We have started this movement across many talukas, which will not end till our demands are met,” he said.
