VERNA: A fatal accident occurred near Goan Maharaja Hotel, Verna, on Tuesday evening, when a tipper truck, allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner, rammed into a TVS scooter, dragging the rider along the road. The victim, identified as Rajesh Naik, a resident of Sancoale, who was grievously injured later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at GMC Bambolim.
According to a complaint filed by Head Constable Umesh Naik of Verna Police Station, the accident took place around 6:55 PM. The accused driver, Chanabasappa Godachi, a resident of New Vaddem, Vasco, and native of Belgaum, Karnataka, was reportedly heading from Pirni Junction towards Titan Junction when he crashed into the scooter from behind.
Following the accident, Verna police rushed to GMC Bambolim, where an inquest panchanama was conducted and the body was referred to post mortem. The body was later handed over to the family for final rites.
Verna Police have registered a case against the truck driver under Sections 281 and 106 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is being carried out by LPSI Pramila Fernandes under the supervision of PI Melson Colaco and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
