VASCO: Sub-district hospital Chicalim is in desperate need of a Paediatric doctor, radiologist and a surgeon. Goa First NGO claims that patients have to face the inconvenience of going to GMC since there is a shortage of medical staff at Sub-district hospital Chicalim.
The newly upgraded hospital at Chicalim, which was known as the Cottage hospital in the past, has now attained the status of a Sub-district hospital. Crores of exchequers money were spent on the up-gradation of this medical facility a few years ago. Although the infrastructure has been put in place with the medical equipment, the medical staff and technical persons to operate this equipment and facilities have not been deployed at this sub-district hospital to date.
Parshuram Sonurlekar, Goa First NGO, said that it is very unfortunate that the sub-district hospital at Chicalim lacks medical and technical staff.
He said that this medical facility caters to three constituencies: Mormugao, Vasco, and Dabolim. Despite this fact, there is no paediatric doctor, Surgeon or radiologist because of which patients have to rush 30 km far at Goa Medical College. Sonurlekar said that Goa First demands before Health Minister to immediately deploy the needed medical and technical staff at the Chicalim sub-district hospital.
Later, a source from the Chicalim sub-district hospital confirmed that it is true that Paediatric doctors, radiologists and Surgeons are needed at Chicalim hospital. A source also added that they have got assurance to deploy these staff within 15 days, but till now, they haven’t received these staff.
