New Delhi: A second explosion near a Border Security Force camp in Amritsar has heightened security concerns in Punjab, coming just hours after a similar incident outside the BSF Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar. The back to back blasts have triggered alarm in the sensitive border state, with a Khalistan linked group claiming responsibility.
The first explosion occurred on Tuesday evening near the BSF facility in Jalandhar, followed by another blast reported in Amritsar. Authorities are investigating both incidents to determine their nature and possible links. The proximity of the blasts to key security installations has raised serious questions about safety and preparedness.
Political leaders have reacted strongly, pointing to what they describe as a deteriorating law and order situation. Bikram Singh Majithia criticised the state government, questioning how such incidents could occur in high security areas and raising concerns about the speed of initial conclusions drawn by officials.
Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party also expressed concern, calling the incidents a warning sign of growing security risks. They emphasised the need for accountability and stronger measures to ensure public safety in the border state.
The blasts have intensified the political debate, with opposition leaders urging both the state and central governments to take immediate steps to address security gaps. Calls have also been made for a thorough and transparent investigation into the incidents.
With Punjab’s strategic location and past security challenges, the developments have placed the spotlight firmly on law enforcement agencies. Investigations are ongoing, and further details are awaited as authorities work to assess the full scope and implications of the incidents.
