New Delhi: The investigation into the death of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal has taken a new turn after police uncovered alleged Snapchat messages and coded conversations exchanged between accused Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary.
According to investigators, recovered mobile data suggests the two communicated using nicknames and coded language to avoid detection and complicate surveillance efforts. Officials told the court that a detailed examination of these conversations is necessary to understand the motive and the extent of the alleged conspiracy.
A purported Snapchat exchange has now become a key focus of the probe. In the conversation, Siya allegedly asked a friend to share a copy of her Aadhaar card to book flight tickets for what she described as “a wedding that won’t happen.” Investigators are examining whether the proposed booking was intended to create the impression that wedding arrangements were continuing normally and divert suspicion from the alleged murder plot.
Police had sought additional custody of the accused, arguing that further face to face interrogation was required to decode the conversations and verify digital evidence. However, the local court declined the request and remanded both Siya and Chetan to 14 days of judicial custody.
The court also rejected a request for narco analysis after both accused refused consent, while investigators stated that such a test was not essential at this stage of the inquiry.
The case relates to the death of Ketan Agarwal, who died after falling from a cliff at Lohagad Fort near Pune on June 18. His family has alleged that the fall was not accidental and accused Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary of pushing him off the cliff as part of a planned conspiracy.
Police are continuing to analyse electronic records and examine the role of additional individuals who may have had prior knowledge of the alleged plot.
