PANAJI: North Goa Police has successfully busted a gang led by a serial bluffmaster with a history of 9 prior criminal cases, who along with his associates, posed as representatives of Muthoot Finance to rob unsuspecting individuals.
The investigation began following a complaint from Reshma Ogale, a resident of Punola, Ucassaim, Bardez, Goa. On 21st January 2025, at approximately 4:35 PM, near the Muthoot Finance building in Mapusa, an unknown man approached her, posing as an employee of Muthoot Finance.
Promising gold, he duped her into handing over ₹1,00,000 in cash. When she realized the fraud and resisted, the suspect used force before fleeing.
Given the nature of the crime, a special investigation team was formed at Mapusa Police Station under the leadership of PI Nikhil Palekar, with assistance from other officers. The team analyzed CCTV footage and criminal dossiers, eventually identifying and arresting the culprits.
As per information, the arrested indiviusla are Manish Shashikant Ambekar, aged 47 years – Gang leader and habitual offender with 9 prior cases in Maharashtra, Shivam Manish Ambekar, aged 24 years., Ravi Shreepati Chavan, aged 42 years, Karan Ravi Chavan, aged 20 years, Yash Ravi Chavan, aged 20 years. All the accused are residents of VTC Palaspe, Panvel, Raigad, Maharashtra.
Police have recovered ₹59,500 in cash Mobile handsets and Mahindra Bolero Jeep (MH-11-DD-2753) used in the crime. The recovery of stolen property confirms the involvement of the accused in this crime.
