PANAJI: The Goa Police has suspended one head constable and a constable for allegedly extorting Rs 5000 from a couple by threatening them.
SP North Nidhin Valsan said that following a complaint from the couple, both the police personnel are placed under suspension and a departmental inquiry has been initiated.
As per the information, the unmarried couple was spending time at Dona Paula when these two cops apprehended them and demanded Rs 5000 by threatening to inform their families.
The couple said that after the incident, the cops took their phone numbers and tried to contact the woman on her mobile, which she refused to attend.
Following continous calls, the couple decided to approach police and narrated the inicid3nt to a senior cop.
Information states that the two constables who were on night patrolling duty in Miramar intercepted the couple, who were allegedly found in the isolated area.
They were issued warnings of police action or to pay an amount of Rs 5,000 approx to let them go free. The amount was later negotiated and paid after which the couple was asked to leave.
The cops also obtained the woman’s mobile number and proceeded to harass her with multiple calls since then. Disturbed by the continuous harassment, the woman decided to file an official complaint against the constables, with the Superintendent of Police (North).
During this preliminary inquiry, the constables were transferred to reserve duty. With the report confirming their involvement in the case, the SP ordered suspending them and initiating a departmental enquiry.
