PANAJI: VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao, and Don Bosco College, Panjim, emerged as the overall champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively at the Goa University Inter Collegiate Judo Championships 2026-27, held from July 28 to 30 at the Sports Authority of Goa’s Multipurpose Hall in Peddem.
Shree Damodar College delivered an impressive performance to secure the men’s overall title, while P.E.S.’s Ravi S. Naik College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, finished runners-up. Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, claimed third place.
In the women’s section, Don Bosco College, Panjim, topped the standings to lift the championship trophy. V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, secured the runners-up position, with Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, finishing third.
The championship also recognised outstanding individual performers. Arif Nawar of Shree Damodar College was honoured as the Best Judoka (Men) after winning the gold medal in the 81kg category, while Riyansha Naik of Don Bosco College was named Best Judoka (Women) following her gold medal-winning performance in the 63kg category.
Among the men’s gold medallists were Nippu Yadav (60kg), Manindra Singh (66kg), Abdul R. Ahmad (73kg), Arif Nawar (81kg), Biru Singh (90kg), Samarth S. Chumari (100kg) and Niyaaz Shaikh (above 100kg).
In the women’s competition, gold medals were won by Tanishka N. Shivolkar (48kg), Pallavi Dande (52kg), Jancica Swamy (57kg), Riyansha Naik (63kg), Suhana Parwar (70kg), Priti Kalmankar (78kg) and Iram Irshad Khatri (above 78kg).
The medals and trophies were presented during the closing ceremony by Prof. Santosh Patkar, Principal of Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Management Studies, Mapusa, along with judo coach Mir Dias and Goa University Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports, Balachandra B. Jadar.
The championship witnessed participation from colleges across Goa, showcasing the depth of talent in university judo and providing a competitive platform for student athletes to excel.
