Panaji: Shree Damodar High School from Margao finished as runners up in the Under 14 Boys Inter School State Level tournament, following a loss in the final against Progress High School at Mapusa Pedem.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Shree Damodar High School struggled to build momentum throughout their innings. They managed to post a modest total of 77 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Despite a challenging batting display, a few players showed resilience at the crease. Usman Ghani emerged as the top scorer with 26 runs, while Affan Shaikh added 16. Rumaan Mulam also contributed with a steady 15 runs, helping the team reach a defendable total.
Progress High School bowlers maintained tight control and consistently picked up wickets, preventing any major partnerships from developing. Sparsh and Param led the bowling attack with impressive performances, claiming three wickets each and putting constant pressure on the opposition.
Chasing a target of 78 runs, Progress High School approached the innings with confidence and composure. Their batters ensured there were no setbacks during the chase, steadily building towards the target. Swayam played a crucial role, remaining unbeaten on 30 runs and guiding his team to victory with ease. The chase was completed comfortably, sealing the match by 7 wickets.
For Shree Damodar High School, Ansh delivered a notable effort with the ball, picking up two wickets. However, the total proved insufficient to challenge the opposition in the final.
Despite the loss, Shree Damodar High School’s journey to the final reflects a strong and competitive campaign, earning them a well deserved runners up finish in the tournament.
