PORVORIM: A single agency will be tasked with installing, controlling, operating, maintaining, and maintaining all traffic signals in Goa, according to a strategic move announced by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
The objective of this initiative is to improve traffic flow and lessen congestion at key intersections across the state by improving the functionality and dependability of traffic signals.
Since the police department is linked to the cameras mounted on these signals, this problem is related to the home department. We are developing a system that will allow one agency to oversee all of the signals,” Sawant said.
The announcement was made in response to worries expressed by Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao during Zero Hour.
Alemao brought attention to the mounting annoyance felt by commuters as a result of the frequent malfunctions of traffic signals at important crossroads, particularly during rush hour. Important intersections like Atal Setu, Merces, Verna Industrial Estate, Nuvem, and Porvorim still have broken signals, he said, which causes heavy traffic.
“Recent answers to questions posed to the legislative assembly have shown that Goa’s traffic signal maintenance and upkeep is not the Department of Transport’s responsibility. Alemao underlined, “This lack of accountability has made the situation worse, leaving commuters to deal with the ensuing chaos.”
Mauvin Godinho, the minister of transportation, acknowledged the significance and applicability of the problem. He clarified that different arrangements, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and efforts by the transportation department, had led to the installation of traffic signals at different locations.
“We are currently working together to assign a single agency to manage all of the state’s traffic signals. We are currently having a discussion about how to put this into practice. Godinho stated, “I want to find a solution as soon as possible.
Additionally, Godinho disclosed that the matter is frequently discussed in road safety council meetings. “I am aware of the matter and will take the necessary measures,” he said.
