VASCO: A site has been identified to build a cattle pound to keep stray cattle from the municipal area. Having a cattle pound will solve the free movement of stray cattle on busy roads, says Vasco MLA.
Mormugao Municipal Council is likely to have its own cattle pound shed shortly. The much needed and much-awaited cattle pound shed will soon become a reality.
Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar told Goemkarponn that the stray cattle is a gripping issue, and to solve this problem, we have already identified a site wherein a cattle pound shed could be built soon.
He further added that a few years back, the municipal labours were pounding the stray cattle but afterwards, we faced a shortage of space with keeping these pounded cattle.
“So now we are in the process of building one cattle pound shed, and we have identified one site. In the coming few days, we will ask that piece of land be given to the municipality or at least the Department of Animal Husbandry should take it and build this shed for us,” he said.
Salkar said that several accidents happen at nighttime as these stray cattle sit on the busy roads, which go unnoticed, further leading to accidents.
“If we have stray cattle pound shed, then such accidents could be avoided,” he added.
Meanwhile, commenting on other issues, Salkar also upheld the practice of keeping bowls filled with water outside the houses or on the balcony so that the birds and animals could drink this water in this scorching summer heat.
He said due to deforestation, birds have to roam everywhere, and in this heat, if we keep some water outside, then this will be a generous and noble gesture towards animals. We did it under Seva Saptah week, an initiative started by BJP Goa.
Salkar also commented that a few illegal stalls at the roadside near Varunapuri junction need to be removed as it may lead to any accidents. He also informed that the Mormugao municipality has also initiated action against such illegal stalls.
