PANAJI: Lifesavers of Drishti Marine, along with beach marshals, handled 13 incidents across Goa over the weekend, carrying out six rescues, attending to a medical emergency, tracing three missing children, and preventing a theft along the coastline and at Dudhsagar waterfalls.
At Ashwem Beach, a 43-year-old tourist from Delhi suffering breathing difficulty was administered oxygen and stabilised on-site by the lifesaving team. In a separate incident, a 37-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh was rescued after drifting into deeper waters while swimming.
At Anjuna Beach, a 17-year-old boy from Hyderabad was brought safely ashore after struggling in deep waters.
A five-year-old child reported missing at Baga Beach was quickly traced and reunited with her parents.
At Calangute Beach, a 25-year-old man from Bihar was rescued after entering the sea under the influence of alcohol and getting caught in a rip current. In another case, a four-year-old child from Belgaum who had gone missing was successfully traced and handed back to family members.
At Colva Beach, a 15-year-old girl from Karnataka was treated after inhaling seawater and later shifted to emergency services. Beach marshals also foiled a theft attempt, apprehending two suspects trying to flee with a stolen bag and handing them over to police. Additionally, a six-year-old child from Bihar was located and reunited with her family, while a lost silver chain recovered at the beach was handed over to authorities.
At Benaulim Beach, a misplaced mobile phone was recovered and returned to its owner after due verification.
At Palolem Beach, a 65-year-old tourist from France who sustained a spinal injury following a fall was stabilised using a spine board and shifted to emergency services.
Meanwhile, at Dudhsagar Waterfalls, a 28-year-old man from Kolhapur was rescued from drowning after entering the water without a life jacket.
Officials said the coordinated response highlights the preparedness and vigilance of lifesavers and beach marshals in ensuring the safety of tourists and locals across Goa’s popular destinations.
