MARGAO: South Goa Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has found MakeMyTrip guilty of unfair trade practices for raising the price of the vacation package by Rs 72k after the complainant had paid one instalment of the same.
The bench noted that as a result, the plaintiff ultimately decided to cancel the vacation package, which caused him mental anguish.
Dr. Belinda Viegas Mueller (“Complainant”) organized a trip for her family and friends in February 2020. Through MakeMyTrip India Pvt. Ltd., they looked at vacation packages online. They selected a good 8-day, 7-night package and paid a down payment of Rs. 48,000; there were still two installments to pay.
A little over a month later, the complainant got an email informing him that the package’s price had increased significantly, from Rs. 142,912 to Rs. 214,723.
The complainant asked for explanation, but got unsatisfactory answers. In the end, the package was canceled, but the initial payment was not reimbursed. She complained to the South Goa District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (the “District Commission”) out of resentment.
