PANAJI: Allan Valentino D’Cruz, a sports journalist, was conferred a postgraduate degree and a gold medal in management studies (MBA) during the 35th convocation of Goa University, held in July at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Bambolim.
The event was graced by ISRO Chairman Dr. S. Somnath, who conferred the degrees upon Allan and other graduates in the presence of the Governor of Goa and Chancellor of Goa University, PS Sreedharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor Harilal Menon, and other dignitaries. Allan was awarded two gold medals for securing the first position (rank) in the MBA examinations held in April 2023. He received the Shrimati Malti Chauhan & Shri Shivdayal Singh Chauhan Memorial Gold Medal and the EDC Gold Medal.
“My deepest gratitude to my parents and sister for their unwavering support throughout. I would also like to thank Shrinivas Dempo and Pallavi Dempo for the belief and support they have extended to me. Joining The Navhind Times as the Sports Editor in September 2022, while being fully enrolled as an MBA student (attending regular classes) at Goa University, was a challenging yet immensely rewarding journey. This achievement is particularly special to me, not only because of the academic recognition but also because it represents the faith the Dempo Group had in my ability to excel in both journalism and management studies simultaneously,” he added.
Allan had earlier completed his post-graduation in MCom and holds a postgraduate diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication. He is currently serving as the Editor-Sports for The Navhind Times while pursuing his PhD in Management Studies at Goa University.
“I am also immensely thankful to the Dempo Group for allowing me to pursue my PhD studies (part-time) in management studies at Goa University. This opportunity will undoubtedly enhance my capabilities and enable me to contribute even more effectively to The Navhind Times,” stated Allan.
