PANAJI: Girish Chodankar, CWC Permanent Invitee and Former GPCC President, appeals to the citizens of Goa to take immediate action against the alarming rise of cash-for-land conversion scams in the state.
Chodankar said, the recent cash-for-jobs scandal has already shaken our state, and now we face an even more pressing issue. The unchecked cash-for-land conversion scam poses a grave threat to our agricultural land, forests, and eco-sensitive areas, silently eroding the very identity of Goa.
He further said last week, two properties were wrongfully converted to settlement zones, despite being categorized as natural cover and no-development slope. This is a clear example of how our environmental protection policies are being undermined, putting our communities in danger.
Girish Chodankar urges every Goan to participate in their next Gram Sabha meetings and propose strong resolutions against these arbitrary land conversions. It is the Gram Sabha that deserves the final say in matters concerning the expansion of settlement areas.
Chodankar said “If your Gram Sabha has previously passed a resolution against these conversions, it’s time to take action again. We must keep the pressure on the government until they abolish the draconian TCP clauses that enable these scams”
Chodankar claimed that the future of Goa hangs in the balance, and together, we can preserve the integrity of our land and our identity.
