PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant emphasized on Friday the significance of confirming land ownership prior to making any purchases and declared that any buildings constructed on government land in Mayem evacuee property after 2014 will be demolished.
Following his chairing of a review meeting at the Secretariat, Sawant declared, “Government will not tolerate illegal constructions.”
According to him, there have been instances of land dealers and agents selling and developing illegally on marked plots of property. He reaffirmed, “These plots and any structures on them are illegal and will be demolished.”
Before making a purchase, CM also recommended land buyers to carefully check the property’s documentation.
Sawant had previously threatened to demolish any new homes built on the Mayem evacuee property in December of last year. Locals living on evacuated properties would be given sanads for ownership, and the remaining land would be kept under government administration and put to use for development projects. It is inappropriate to build on government land and assert rights over it, he was cited as saying.
This warning applies to all parties involved: the buyer, the seller, and the builder. “It is forbidden to misappropriate or sell government land illegally, and it is also forbidden to extract resources like laterite without authorization,” he declared.
The CM also revealed that, of the 810 cases pertaining to property, 700 have been resolved. He continued, “The lack of proper documentation is the reason the remaining cases are pending.”
Sawant directed officials handling the long-delayed Saloi-Chorao Bridge project to expedite the approval and land acquisition processes and to report progress on a regular basis. There are landowners who cannot be located. Nevertheless, we have established a team led by Revenue Secretary Sandip Jacques, who will serve as its nodal officer and oversee the situation every two weeks. “We’ll move the bridge project along faster,” he promised.
