PANAJI: Young filmmakers from Goa are increasingly making their presence felt on the international stage, showcasing the state’s rich culture and creativity through their films. Among these emerging talents is Rameez Shaikh, a budding filmmaker from Mapusa, Goa, who is currently pursuing a Mass Communication degree at Don Bosco College, Panjim.
Rameez has earned widespread recognition for his short film The Awakening, which tackles the theme of apathy and society’s disregard for pressing environmental issues. The film has received considerable acclaim, winning the South Asia Regional Winner Award at the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival 2024, held at the Loretto Theatre in the USA. Additionally, it has been selected for prestigious screenings at the Mangrove Festival 2024 and the Waves International Short Film Festival 2025, further cementing Rameez’s reputation as an emerging storyteller.
Rameez attributes his success to the unwavering support of his team and family. He credits his brother, Ismail Shaikh, for inspiring his passion for filmmaking and acknowledges the mentorship of his professors, Mr. Agnelo D’Souza and Mr. Archie Fernandes, for shaping his craft.
Apart from filmmaking, Rameez has also honed his skills in media and communication as a reporter and anchor, allowing him to explore a variety of storytelling formats. This versatility has contributed to his growing success in the creative industry.
As the president of The Cinemaniacs Film Club, Rameez has also demonstrated leadership skills, successfully organizing the intercollegiate event Cinemania in 2024.
Rameez Shaikh’s journey is a testament to the innovative spirit of Goa’s youth. Through his films and achievements, he proudly carries Goa’s stories and culture to a global audience, showcasing the talent and creativity that define the state’s young generation.
