New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, calling for a united national effort to protect young people from substance abuse and help them realise their full potential. Addressing the launch through video conferencing, the Prime Minister said drug addiction diverts youth from their dreams and poses a serious challenge to the nation’s future.
Describing India’s young population as the “Amrit Peedhi,” Modi said the country’s progress depends on the aspirations, energy and talent of its youth. He stressed that safeguarding them from addiction is essential to building a developed India and ensuring long term social and economic growth.
The Prime Minister said the campaign is not only focused on helping individuals overcome addiction but also aims to strengthen families, communities and the nation as a whole. He noted that the initiative encourages young people to become ambassadors of positive social change by spreading awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and inspiring others to lead healthy lives.
Highlighting the campaign’s evolution, Modi said it was launched as a pilot project in Kashi last year and has since expanded with the participation of more than 125 spiritual organisations. According to him, these organisations have joined hands to support the welfare of millions of people by promoting a drug free society through awareness and community outreach.
Modi described substance abuse as a long recognised social evil and emphasised the importance of preventing young people from falling into addiction. He said India’s cultural traditions have consistently promoted healthy lifestyles while discouraging harmful practices, providing valuable guidance in addressing the issue.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the growing availability of rehabilitation centres and support systems that help individuals recover from addiction and rebuild their lives. He reiterated that tackling drug abuse requires a comprehensive approach combining public awareness, community participation, rehabilitation services and strong law enforcement to create a healthier and more secure future for the country’s youth.
